The Importance of Thoughts

To go along with the previous post, our thoughts are equally as important as our words. We are judged by the world based on our words, but God sees through our words and sees into our mind and heart.

Hebrews 4:12-13 – For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

Proverbs 16:1-2 –The plans of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, But the Lord weighs the motives.

Matthew 5:28 – ….” but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

Matthew 15:18-19 – But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders.

God knows our hearts. We can’t hide from Him. Our goal should be to examine our heart. Purify our mind and heart. Set our mind on things that are pure, holy, just, righteous. Our heart and mind is who we truly are. When we are tested and tried our true self shows. Your patience is only tested when you go through a rough patch. It is only then that truly know if you have patience or not. Think on things that are holy and that will influence your thoughts. It goes to the age old maxim “Garbage in, garbage out.” It still rings true today. If you surround yourself with music that is degrading, full of filth, it will seep in to your subconscious and linger there. If you watch television shows about murder, sex, drugs, alcohol, then that is where your mind will drift, and eventually influence how you think on things. How your “heart” feels about things.

Examine who you are at your core. If you aren’t happy with it, give it to God. It’s that simple. It is only then that you can be the person that God wants you to be. Righteous, pure, holy, loving, kind, selfless, patient, wise, etc. It goes on. Let God fix your heart, to fix your life and change the path of your future for good. So that you are able to repair your relationships with loved ones, you  can forgive others that have wronged you, be a better spouse/parent/child. Your thoughts matter.

2 Corinthians 10:5 – We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

1 Peter 3:15 – but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
